The new Local Development Framework (LDF) Core Strategy is an over-arching planning policy for Colchester Borough. It has now been through all stages of public consultation (including Public Examination) and the final version has been produced. The next steps are for subsidiary policies be developed and adopted covering more specific issues such as Development Policies and Site Allocations which will go through the same stages of public consultation.

Because of poor road access to the development at the former Cook's shipyard site, a number of traffic related proposals have been put forward. The overall objective is to "improve" access to the site. The proposed changes include closing Queens Road, creating "build-outs" in the conservation area, and a reduction in on-street parking in a number of locations.
Essex County Council has just finished a consultation on changes to the A133 as it passes through Colchester.
Colchester Borough Council is currently developing its ``Core Strategy.'' This is an important document that will guide planning and development in the borough until 2021.
The Green Party submitted a detailed response to the latest round of consultation. We think the core strategy should emphasise the need for sustainability above all else, including targets for energy efficiency, energy reduction, waste reduction, improved public transport, better pedestrian and cycle routes, and a reduction in light and noise pollution.
